How to Play

From Vector Strike Wiki

Welcome to Vector Strike. Tight teamplay and quick decision making is vital, but you'll never get there if you don't understand the fundamentals. This page will cover all the basics of playing Vector Strike, excluding basic FPS controls, and any Striker specific tips or tricks. Projectiles that you can fire will be referred to as Shooting and interactions with the ball as Throwing.

Shooting

Long Shot

The Long Shot is the most basic type of projectile in the game, shooting forward at the cursor and arcing down over time. With a max ammo of PLACEHOLDER and PLACEHOLDER in the immediate pool before needing to reload. Upon hitting a surface they will bounce PLACEHOLDER times. If a Long Shot hits the ball it'll push it. Depending where it hits the ball it may also apply spin.

Breaker Shot

The Breaker Shot is a short ranged shot intended to break grabs. With a max ammo if PLACEHOLDER and PLACEHOLDER in the immediate pool before needing to reload. Breaker Shots will break any grab, opponent and friendly. It also excels in defense, being easier to use to push the ball back as it heads towards the goalie and/or the goal. Two shots usually counteracts any momentum the ball may have.

Movement

Dashing

Dashing is a core feature of Vector Strike, allowing the player to gain a burst of speed that can throw the ball. Dashing into the ball will redirect it to wherever the player dashing is currently looking and add to its momentum. In certain situations, this can cause the ball to curve. This can be abused to consistently curve the ball, in what's known as a Curve Dash. While airborne the dash has one charge until touching any solid surface once more. This surface can be a wall, the floor, or by standing on the ball. This single dash also affects attempting to throw the ball with dash.

Sliding

Sliding is the main way to preserve momentum, and is commonly paired with a Dash to efficiently move around the map.

Wall Running

When parallel to a wall, jumping will allow the player to wall run on the wall. This can be used to gain vertical positioning and escape visibility of other players.

Ball Handling

Grabbing

The ball can be grabbed by holding right click. The longer the ball is grabbed, the more it slows down the holder, this is to encourage teamplay and passing. While the ball is grabbed, other players cannot grab it or shoot it with long shot. The ball can still be broken out of grab by using abilities such as Fireball, by being Breaker Shot, or by having the ball be dashed into. After a ball is no longer grabbed whether that be by having the grab broken, or the ball thrown, a short cooldown is initiated before being able to grab again.

Throwing

Throwing the ball can be done by simply letting go of the grab button, tossing the ball towards wherever the player holding the ball is looking. The ball can also be dashed into by the holder while held to send it forward. Typically to get further distance, the throw is quickly followed up by one or two Long Shots.

Dropping

Dropping the ball is typically used in more advanced tech or to confuse players. It can be done by pressing PLACEHOLDER by default, and simply sets down the ball. The pickup cooldown causes this to be inconsistently useful, as the ball can easily be shot away.
